Often times, things come up during Daily Standup that require more elaborate discussion. Perhaps there is a bug that someone worked on, which leads to questions or involves a more in-depth explanation. Alternatively, there may be a design option or a controversial change under consideration, which provokes opinions across the team. Or maybe there are a couple of people on the team that, for whatever reason, have a tendency to derail the team from focusing on what was done yesterday, what will be done today, and what (if anything) is blocked.
All of the above are great examples of what should be discussed during ‘Parking Lot’. When these topics arise during or outside of the Daily Standup, they should be added to the agenda for Parking Lot, which typically occurs immediately following the 15-minute Daily Standup. Parking Lot discussions are usually time-boxed to a maximum of 15 minutes. Topics which require more lengthy discussion (for example, problem-solving or technical design discussions which involve multiple unknowns or unmet dependencies) should be discussed offline, during a dedicated design meeting.
